Plumbers
The most common type of plumbers are called to a home or business to deal with clogs in drains or toilets, leaky pipes, or problems with septic tanks. Plumbers usually start out in the trade as an apprentice. The apprentice works under a master plumber to learn the skills of plumbing. A master plumber has worked in various environments, and understands the different needs of the plumbing for different types of buildings. A plumber also has to build or organize the piping and water flow of a home or building to the standards set by the town he is working in. It is important for the master plumber to know what he is allowed to do and not allowed to do. For example, some towns do not allow people to install septic tanks.
Pipe and Steam - Fitters and Layers
Plumbers are also responsible for the pipes that carry water to us from a city or town to our homes. Some other types of specialized plumbers work on these pipelines. There are the pipe layers, also known as pipefitters, who build the piping for drains and sewers. There are also pipefitters, who install the piping. Additionally there are steamfitters who install specific pipes dealing with the transport of steam. You can find these steam pipes in larger cities mostly. They all work in a variety of environments such as new constructions.
All types of plumbers are considered to be well paid in the labor industry. Their average pay is about $20 dollars an hour. As an apprentice, you can expect to make less than this amount. As a journeyman plumber, or master plumber you can expect to make more than this. Experience is very important in this profession. |
