Secondary / Middle School, and High School Teachers
High school and middle school teachers teach different subjects in secondary education system. Middle school is the transition between elementary school and high school. Most of these Jr. Highs are set up similar to the high school as far as curriculum is concerned. Usually, one teacher is responsible for teaching one subject at a grade level, or multiple grade levels. So for example, a high school teacher may instruct, sophomore year history only. Of course, this can vary based on school size and subject. Just like in the elementary school, there are specialty teachers that can include Spanish teachers, German teachers, or art teachers. Because not every student in the school takes these subject, they usually teach more than one grade level.

To train to be a teacher in the secondary system, you must receive a secondary education degree in a certain subject, such as math. This qualifies them to teach only math. Although, someone could be trained in more than one subject. In high schools there are teachers for reading, English, math, science, and history, just to name a few. Some teachers choose to get their master's degree as well, which could increase their average pay. The typical pay of a high school or middle school teacher is around $40,000 per year.
