When choosing a career, first look at yourself and what your interests are. Do you like to help people? Do you like to work with your hands? These are a few questions you should ask yourself. Next, decide if you want to go to college, or a trade school to become certified for your job. Today, many jobs including teachers, nurses, and even hairdressers require an education. From once you have an idea about your interests and how much time you are willing to spend to complete an education, you can decide what careers to look into. For instance, if you decided that you like to help people but would only like to be in school for two to four years, a job in the civil service industry may be a good choice. However, if you aren’t willing to spend a lot of time in school, a job in the labor industry would be a better option. Today positions as plumbers and carpenters require little schooling, and many train at the job site.

Many people get the idea that they want to be a doctor or a lawyer because they make a lot of money. Although this is usually true, physicians and attorneys also spend a great deal of time in college before they can work. To become a doctor, the minimum time in school is eight years. For a lawyer, it is around seven years. A doctor may make more money than a teacher, but he has also invested more time in school. These factors all must be considered before choosing a profession.

Today in the United States some of the fastest growing jobs are in the Health Care industry. The health care industry provides jobs for many Americans, and in turn the nurses, doctors, and dentists provide help to many people everyday. On average, the top paying jobs in the US are in the health care field. Anesthesiologists, surgeons, and orthodontists make the most yearly salaries, reaching well above $180,000 per year.

On the other hand, the workers in the food service industry make the lowest yearly average salary. These workers include the wait staff of restaurants, kitchen helpers, and fast food chefs. Their average pays are around $16,000 per year.
