Electricians

Electricians install and/or fix the electrical components of buildings and houses. Electricians work along side with construction companies during new building and renovations. They typically learn their trade by being an apprentice first. There are also certain certifications and licenses you must obtain before becoming qualified to work. A master electrician has to undergo years of training and learning about safety issues. The masters teach the electrical trade to apprentices. There are also journeyman electricians, that you have to pass a certain test to become. These titles and precautions are taken because working with electricity has the potential to be dangerous to the electrician, and the people that will be using it in their home or building.

There are a lot of components in the electrical system of a home or building. There are many wires, switches, and breakers that must be connected to light and heat homes. Electricians must know exactly how to connect all the circuitry in order for the system to function properly. This requires a great deal of training and knowledge. It is typical for an apprentice to work under supervision for at least 5 years before working on his own. This will ensure that he knows what he is doing and that he is also doing it safely. There is a safety hazard working with electricity and high voltages. Electricians typically wear gloves, and rubberized shoes for protection.

In addition to the standard building electrician, there are also automotive and aircraft electricians. They work with automobiles and planes respectively. They can be self-employed or work commercially. The job can pay well with experience. Among the different areas of the field, electricians working in the automotive manufacturing industry make the most at around $30 dollars an hour. The average salary is about $20 dollars an hour.
