The carpenter usually has a wide variety of skills, and can work with different materials and different tools. Sometimes they can be hired to build the frame work for a house or a barn. On the other hand, they may be employed to produce much smaller products such as toys or doll houses. They must know how to operate various tools and machines, such as power saws and drills. He must also be very careful in the workshop. It is common for a carpenter to wear some type of eye protectors and an apron to keep wood shavings off his clothes. Some may also choose to specialize what they build or materials they work with. People who make furniture can make a lot of money if their work is good. For example, Amish carpenters make different types of furniture that sales for top dollar at retail and specialty stores.

Carpenters earn an average pay around $17 dollars an hour. However, the amount of money one can make will vary depending on where he works, and the type of work he does.
